Brading Butterfly Walk

Parks & Walks

This is a very easy, short walk which goes through woods and then over the chalk downland of Brading Downs.  The combination of the chalky ground and the south facing downs, mean the ground drains very quickly, making it the ideal home for certain plants, like the horseshoe vetch, which grows in abundance.  This plant is the main food source for the rare Chalkhill Blue butterfly, which can be seen through July and August in this area.  If you're lucky, you will spot some of these rare creatures, and if you're luckier still, you might see some Kestrels who like to prey from the reserve.
