Monk and Merchant Walk
Looking to get out into the countryside on a proper hike? Look no further than the monk and merchant walk, which takes you from Blackgang Carpark, past the Pepperpot, past the Hoy Monument, the Hermitage Country House and multiple fields of cows and horses. Get ready for breathtaking views!
Set off first thing in the morning with a picnic, lots of water and a pair of binoculars! The walk is around 2.5 miles. Young legs and lots of snack stops meant it took us a nice leisurely 4 hours. You can also shorten the walk to be a linear one and go to the Pepperpot or a bit further to the Hoy.
More details on the National Trust website and following the step by step directions added a fun element.
Facilities
- Parking at Blackgang Carpark is free
- Take cash for the ice cream van in the carpark at the end (or the beginning) of your walk
