Niton Smugglers Trail
'According to a local record, in the 1830s most of Niton village was involved in smuggling - either as active participants in running goods, buying them from homeward-bound ships in the Channel, or as “sleeping partners” or financiers for the cross-Channel enterprise' (Niton Smugglers - The Story that has yet to be told, Niton and Whitwell Parish Council).
Niton has a great history of smuggling. Learn all about it on the Smugglers Trail, which guides you through the village and down to the coast. Printable maps and an information sheet can be downloaded here or pick one up from the Buddle Inn or Joe's Bar.
